St. Brigid
Our February learning began with the story of Saint Brigid, which the children greatly enjoyed. After listening to the story, the classes enthusiastically recreated it through role play. They used a throw to represent St Brigid’s cloak and explored how it stretched, starting small, then growing larger, just as it does in the story.
As is common practice in our school, staff listened carefully to the children’s ideas and let these guide and enrich learning across a number of curriculum areas during free play. Many children chose to use blocks in the construction area and asked for St. Brigid's cloak (the throw!) again so they could build St Brigid’s church. This role play continued throughout the session, showing their deep engagement and understanding.
Some children also chose to paint pictures of St Brigid and her church, demonstrating excellent creativity and recall of the story.
