Pancake Tuesday

28th Feb 2026

For Pancake Tuesday, the children thoroughly enjoyed making pancakes in school. As part of the activity, they engaged in scientific exploration by observing the changes that occur when wet and dry ingredients are combined. They developed descriptive vocabulary such as sticky, wet, and runny, as well as scientific terms like solid and liquid. The children also learned to identify and use common cooking equipment, including weighing scales and a whisk. They explored how to measure liquids in units such as pints and millilitres, and how to measure solids in grams, building their understanding of real-life numeracy and measurement skills.

All children participated enthusiastically and had a wonderful, hands-on learning experience. We also discussed the hazards associated with hot kitchen equipment, and the pupils all agreed that using such equipment is a responsibility for adults.

Many children tasted their pancakes, with several happily declaring them “the best pancakes ever.” It was a fantastic and memorable learning experience for everyone involved.
